She felt guilty…

She felt guilty about the impact of her disorder on her children and wondered whether they would be better off without her.

– The Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide

This is a very common thought of someone going through depression, whether or not it’s associated with bipolar disorder.  During depression, everything seems worse, harder to take.  You tire and lose your temper more easily.  You then feel guiltier than you normally would because of these things.  You begin to feel not only that your problems are overwhelming you, but that they are overwhelming the people around you as well, and you tell yourself that because you feel this way and act this way they would be better off without you.  This is one of the thoughts that most commonly leads to suicidal feelings.
